BossToberfest – Our Favorite German Beers Available in North America

October 18, 2016

Oktoberfest cathedral

Oktoberfest has come and passed, and chances are good that you did not make the trip to Mecca Munich to join in the festivities and sample some of the greatest beers on the planet.

First celebrated in 1810, Oktoberfest is the world’s largest beer festival, with over 7,000,000 litres served every year. Only breweries within the city limites of Munich are permitted to be on tap at Oktoberfest but with and average annual consumption of 110 litres per person, there are more German brewers than you could possibly imagine. Trying to figure out where to start can be daunting, and you may find yourself reaching for that comfortable favourite when trying to decipher the labels in the import aisle.

Well don’t fret, we’ve done the “hard” work for you- sampling lager after lager, cleansing our palates in between each with handmade pretzels, sausages and of course…sauerkraut. (Lots of sauerkraut!) In total we poured over 30 different types of beer, all in observance of the German Purity Laws of 1516, to bring you our favorite Weissbier, Kolsh, Pils, Helles, and Dunkel available right now, in your local beer store.

It’s a Hold Up! Belts vs Suspenders – As Voted by You

straw boss combs comb collective strawbossco strawboss twitter poll belts versus v vs suspenders

Late last week we ran a poll on our Twitter page to let you weigh in on a debate that pits form against function. An argument over preference as polarizing as the 2016 Presidential Election: Belts vs Suspenders

While belts have existed for thousands of years, holding up tunics and togas, suspenders came in late to game, shaking things up to improve on an age old problem that still effects us to this day. But what factors do we consider when choosing one over the other? Is this simply a matter of superior support, or are we looking for more than a practical solution to our wandering waistlines.

Surely you’ve caught yourself imaging what it would be like to spend an afternoon in a cantina with Ernest Hemingway, or to go pint-for-pint with Hunter S. Thompson in a Las Vegas dive bar. Though some of your favourite authors are now spoken of in the past tense, their works have become their legacy. But in their time, while they were living the life that would later define the dash between two dates in a lengthy obituary, their reputation (and behavior) made them infamous.

What better way to celebrate the memory of great artist than raising a glass of the very same cocktail responsible for nights worth writing about?
We’ve compiled the recipes of 10 cocktails as strong as the personalities they attracted, for you to discover and toast your favourite authors.
